I’m going to shuffle my art-related posts to another blog.

Moving my postings related to sketches, concepts, studies, and finalized artwork to a blogspot hosted blog over at http://livetodraw.blogspot.com. If you’re interested in following my progress when it comes to digital drawing, that’s the spot for doing that.

I might start putting up tutorials and tips and tricks once I get more experienced. If you want to know “how” I paint either way, it’s just to ask in a comment. I won’t bite.

Been a while since I’ve updated with art.

I’ve been very busy the last few months, basically with creating and finishing assignments at the university I study at. I’ve made a platform game in Flash, which took a lot of time. I’ve also made a short-movie (4 minutes), a sound-project and taken a lot of photographies, as well as getting a little time for some drawing as you can see. But I haven’t gotten the time to focus on either of these things, so I’ll use my christmas holiday, most of it, to focus on getting in some basic drawing skills – because currently I’m not really satisfied with how I draw.

Perspective drawing for an assignment at school. Used around 3-4 hours in Photoshop.

Being good with a camera and having creativity is a plus.

I do not have a lot of experience when it comes to being a photographer. Especially not when it comes to taking good and tasteful/compositionally correct photographies, but I do try – this assignment was done for a course in Visual Design at the University of Hedmark.

I had to take 12 photos in total,  I decided that I wanted to focus on harmony/calmness as well as vertical/horizontal lines in my take on this assignment. All of the images are taken with a Canon EOS 450D, it’s the first time I’ve used a digital SLR camera.

So yeah, I’ve been extremely busy with deadlines and assignments for the course I’m taking in Creative Arts & Media. I enjoy browsing wallpapers, but lately I’ve had to enjoy Adobe Flash, ActionScript 3.0, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Soundbooth, games-history and methodical learning in game/project development instead.

All the wallpapers are, as usual, in 1900×1200 resolution. If you don’t like that you can find your own wallpapers.

My first game ever, developed with Flash CS4 Professional and ActionScript 3.0 (language used in Flash), for a course in Animation and Interactivity at the University of Hedmark. Have fun!

Genre: Side-scrolling platformer.
Plot: In a world of hard rocks, crumbled papers, and sharp scissors – you’re the hand. Struck your opponents down with great vengeance!
Gameplay: Defeat enemies by transforming into either a rock, a paper, or scissors – depending on the enemy you meet. Rock is weak to Paper, Paper is weak to Scissors, Scissors is weak to Rock.

School assignment – design a hero and two enemies.

This is going to be a worklog on my first assignment in Visual Design. Assignment: Design one “hero” and two enemies. Fully detailed view for the characters. Sketch left/right side and backside view.

Hero, front-view (sketch 1)

If you didn’t see it, I’ve picked up some inspiration from the Prince of Persia video game series, I love the art and design in the games. Quick sketch (taken 2 hours or so, including erasing the whole character, starting a new one, gathering references and so on) with rough colors and details done in Corel Painter 11 with Wacom Intuos 4 medium pen tablet.

Another concept for the same assignment. After hearing “Oh! Is that inspired by Prince of Persia?!” by several classmates and some design thoughts, I decided I wanted to change the look of my hero quite drastically. I feel better about this concept, it has more personality and in my opinion it “flows” better and stands out as something you would see in a hero character.

Here’s the concept, more or less finalized.. I might change some things here and there, but I feel it’s roughly finished.

Sketch for another enemy, a tree! This creature is inspired (or rather tired) from a MMO-game called Aion.

You can have a look at all the finished designs here if you wish, includes character-concepts of a hero and two enemies, as well as a perspective of a building.

Feel free to give critiques, I’d love to get input on what I can do differently to (hopefully) improve the characters over time. I obviously have to work a lot on coloring and adding details, and I need to learn how to draw properly. Right now I am not sure exactly what types of details I want to add, perhaps some ornamental armor on the hero (partly done in concept 2 of the hero) and chains/some sort of “evil” stuff going on for the enemies, but if you have something cool – go ahead and add a comment.

Two sketch-posts in one day?! Madness.

I decided I wanted to be really productive today. So here’s another daily, or, several actually. I did some quick poses, 30 seconds on each pose, from Posemaniacs.com.

Fish-topic today, a sea-monster-with-lots-of-scales sort of concept creature. I like the looks, might tidy it up a bit sometime later.

This one started out as eight thick green lines, and I have absolutely no idea how it ended up being a guy with huge lips, a green face, a red and white striped tie, and a frog on his head. I’ve decided to name him… *drumroll* Geckoboy! Perhaps he’ll be a superhero some day.

I like the game, I like to draw, perfect combination.

This is going to be a worklog and timeline of my progress on a Team Fortress 2 fan-art drawing. I’m drawing the group-shot of the classes found in the game, from reference. The work is done with Photoshop CS4 and Wacom Intuos 4.

Next step is adding values of shadow/light and detailing the characters with colors.

Three, two, one..

Picture time!

I’ve been extremely busy this week, school has started and that means a lot of new people I need to know, a new place I needed to move into, new rules, new habits, new subjects, and so on. Simply put, it’s pretty stressing when it all goes down over a few days. But it doesn’t stop me from at least, once more being late, posting a weekly wallpaper or two.

So, this week I got myself a new computer in regards of what I’m going to study (Creative and Dital Media Arts – game design and character concept, mostly, and some programming), namely Dell Precision M6400. Damn what a laptop, and I love the resolution (1900×1200).

Naturally, this week’s wallpapers are dedicated to my new laptop, I need a good looking desktop, at least a good wallpaper. It’s really important, and when I want a wallpaper, I want something that looks good (meaning: minimalistic, abstract, nature, and a crisp look).

And another late post, this week has been super busy. I’ve moved to an apartment in Hamar (Norway) where I’m going to study computer art and game design. I have three very interesting and hopefully meaningful years in front of me.

I’ve been annoyed by 4scrape falling down, and so I have been looking for new solutions to my wallpaper needs. I’ve found a few, similar, services – http://9bb.ath.cx/scrape/ and http://imprettygay.tumblr.com/ is pretty nice.

This week’s wallpapers are pretty minimalistic, vector, and abstract – something I like a lot.

Update: http://imprettygay.tumblr.com seems to be taken down or deleted, oh well..
