New Features Added

WordPress recently released another update, I’ve added some of the goodness.

Options for your readers, like a way for them to comment on your published content, as well as possibly rating your posts and rating comments – can both be a good and a bad thing.

  • It can be good because you gather statistics of what sort of interests your userbase has, and it can help you to realise what you should focus on when it comes to writing up a good article that many readers likes – and possibly would like more of (where polls come in, and are an excellent way to track statistics and opinions).
  • It can be bad because there’s a lot of idiots out there who are just out to make a mess and create bad atmosphere – the kind of people who behave badly for the sake of behaving badly. Those people will, usually, rate every single post as low as possible, as well as give comments (even good ones) thumbs down. Sometimes they have access to more than once computer, or they know a lot about computers and simply spam your rating downwards. Even if the post or comments don’t really deserve that treatment, so it can do more bad than good if this is to happen.

So by now you probably know what I’ve added to this blog, it’s WordPress’s new rating system for blog-posts and reader-comments. You can rate the posts from 1 (Very Poor) to 5 (Excellent) stars, and you can rate the comments with either a Thumb Up (Like) or Thumb Down (Dislike). I am not sure if the higher/lower rating of comments will have any impact of the comment structure, like the highest rated comment appearing on top and the lowest rated comment being hidden and so on. I’ll check that out when it’s been running for a while.

Well, that’s all, I hope you guys and gals will enjoy the new feature, and I hope I will get something out of it myself!
